Life on campus

What six years actually feel like, day-to-day.

The honest version — not the brochure-perfect version. The cold is real. So is the Indian mess. So are the friendships.

Explore Student Life

The first winter is the hardest. After that, it's just a place you live.

Most parents worry about the cold. Most students stop noticing it by January of Year 1. Hostels are central-heated to 22°C through the season; the campus, the mess, the metro and the malls are all indoor walking distance. You'll buy your one good jacket from a senior at a discount the week you land.

Food

Indian mess included.

Every partner university operates an Indian mess on-campus or directly adjacent — run by Indian cooks, paid for in your annual invoice. North-Indian and South-Indian rotations, daily.

  • Veg / non-veg lines separated
  • Tiffin to ward during rotations
  • Festivals catered: Diwali, Eid, Onam

Safety

Quiet, ordered, walkable.

Russian university towns are safer than most Indian metros — low petty crime, well-lit campuses, on-call hostel security. Indian-student support officers handle everything from lost passports to homesickness.

  • 24/7 hostel security desk
  • NGI emergency hotline · India side
  • Embassy registration on arrival
Travel

Summer break · two months.

Late June through August, students return home. Group flights, NGI-arranged airport pickups in Delhi and Mumbai. Short winter break in January for those staying in Russia for inter-semester intensives.

Vietnam-specific questions

The questions Indian parents keep asking.

Honest answers. We'd rather lose you to a better-fit option than mis-sell a Russian degree to a student it doesn't suit.

Is Vietnam safe for Indian students?
Vietnam is considered one of the safest and most student-friendly countries in Southeast Asia. Universities operate in well-connected cities with secure campuses, affordable transportation, and international student support systems. NGI also provides onboarding guidance and emergency assistance support for students after arrival.
Is the weather difficult to adjust to?
Vietnam generally has a tropical and warm climate, which is much easier for Indian students to adapt to compared to colder countries. Northern cities like Hanoi experience mild winters, while southern cities remain warm throughout the year.
Do I need to learn Vietnamese?
NMBBS programs for international students are taught in English. However, universities provide basic Vietnamese language training to help students communicate with patients during clinical rotations and hospital practice.
Can I work part-time as a student?
Students are generally encouraged to focus fully on academics during the MBBS program because medical education requires intensive practical and theoretical study. Regulations regarding part-time work may vary by university and visa conditions.
What about food — I'm vegetarian / Jain.
Every partner university operates an Indian mess (north + south rotation, daily). Pure-veg lines are separated. Jain students typically pre-coordinate with the mess on arrival — most kitchens accommodate without root-vegetable preparations on request. We'll connect you with current Jain students in your shortlisted city.
What if I want to do residency in the US/UK after MBBS?
Doable from Russia, with extra steps. Kazan, Kursk and Pavlov are ECFMG-listed, which clears USMLE eligibility. The UK PLAB route is open to all NMC-listed Russian degrees. You'd run USMLE Step 1 prep in parallel from Year 3 onward — we map this from day one if it's your goal.
Hidden costs?
Apostille and translation (₹18,000 one-time, included in our service fee), Russian-language textbooks (~$50/yr from Year 2), winter clothing (~₹15,000 once), and ad-hoc visa renewal fee (~$80 every 3 years for over-21 students). We give you a single all-in invoice. No surprises.
What happens if I fail a year?
You repeat the year — Russian universities allow one repeat per stage (pre-clinical, para-clinical, clinical) without expulsion. Repeat-year fees are typically 50% of standard tuition. Failure-rates for English-medium Indian students at our partner unis are under 6% per year.
